Every Day Counts
You don’t reach long term goals by doing something for just one day; it's about the cumulative power of daily decisions that shape who you become. Each day's choices, no matter how small, contribute significantly to not just reaching your goals, but becoming the person you aspire to be.
It’s never just one day…
You’re right, you don’t reach long term goals by doing something for just one day. You reach them by stringing together day after day after day after day 🔁
So you’re not wrong that one day in isolation isn’t going to be the reason why you do or don’t accomplish your goals. But it is one day that contributes to the long string of consistent days that will allow you to reach them long term.
If we never did anything on a single day because “one day doesn’t matter” then it would be pretty easy to never even start. And that’s because you can’t only equate healthy choices with an outcome — losing weight cannot be the only reason why you decide to eat healthy. What happens when weight loss is no longer the goal? Eating healthy just doesn’t matter any more?
Every decision you make isn’t just about getting you to the end goal; it’s about helping you become the type of person you want to be. And if every day you take actions towards the type of person that you want to become, over time and many repeated behaviors, you will become that person who also reaches that goal.
So yes, eating some fruit today isn’t necessarily going to lead you to lose weight. But eating some fruit today does align with your values as a healthy person. And as a healthy person, you make decisions that prioritize your health (like eating fruit and protein and walking) because that’s what makes you feel good and live the type of life that you want to live.
Next time you're tempted to do something (or not do something) because it won’t get you closer to your goal, ask yourself: does this align with the kind of person I want to be?
