Should I Strength Train or do Cardio First?

Always prioritize your primary goal!

Strength or cardio first?!?! Surprise surprise… IT DEPENDS!

You’ll have the most energy to give to whichever modality you train first which means you’ll be able to hit that session harder and train more effectively. So you should start with what you want to prioritize… aka do the thing that aligns with your primary goal!

If you’re focusing on building muscle, gaining strength, or fat loss then you should opt for strength training first.

If you’re working to improve endurance, training for a 10k, or aiming to improve in any endurance sport, then you should opt for cardio first.

If you fall somewhere in the middle, in an ideal world I’d recommend splitting up your strength and cardio sessions. But your ability to do this is going to depend on your schedule so if you have to hit cardio and strength together, I’d recommend tacking on your cardio to an upper body focused session if possible. If you have enough energy after a leg session to hit cardio, chances are you’re not hitting legs hard enough!

TLDR: always prioritize your primary goal!

And if that goal is building muscle and improving body composition, train with me through the Moxie Method app!
