The Power Of Small Wins
Finding gratitude for your body — even when you don’t feel your fittest
Right now, I’m in a season where I don’t feel my fittest.
Recovering from ACL surgery has meant stepping back from the kind of movement that feels natural to me—strength training, long walks, even just the ability to feel strong and capable in my body. It’s a strange and frustrating shift, one that challenges me daily.
But over the years, I’ve learned that fitness isn’t just about peak performance. It’s about resilience, adaptation, and perhaps most importantly, gratitude. It’s easy to appreciate our bodies when they’re at their strongest—when we’re hitting PRs in the gym, feeling energized during workouts, or moving without limitation. But what about when we’re sidelined? When movement doesn’t feel effortless? When progress looks different than we expected?
That’s when gratitude becomes even more powerful.
Right now, I’m choosing gratitude for my body’s ability to heal. For the slow but steady progress in rehab. For the fact that, despite this temporary setback, my body still shows up for me every day in ways I might have once taken for granted.
Gratitude isn’t about ignoring frustration or pretending everything is fine. It’s about holding space for both—the frustration of being limited and the appreciation for what’s still possible.
When we hit a setback—whether it’s due to injury, illness, or simply a shift in routine—it’s easy to focus on what we can’t do. But just because progress looks different doesn’t mean it’s not happening.
Small wins matter.
Hitting a new milestone in rehab
Getting outside for fresh air
Honoring rest when your body needs it
These moments might not look like traditional fitness achievements, but they build the foundation for long-term success. They reinforce the idea that your worth isn’t tied to how much you can lift or how far you can run. At the end of the day, true fitness isn’t just about pushing harder. It’s about listening, adapting, and respecting the process—even when it’s not going the way we hoped.
So wherever you are in your own journey, be kind to your body. Celebrate what it can do today. And remember, strength isn’t just about the weight on the bar or the miles on the treadmill—it’s also about the mindset you carry through every season of life.
Even the challenging ones 🤍
